Frequently Asked Questions
Does this work with scanned PDFs?
Yes, you can convert scanned PDFs to TXT (plain text), HTML, or other formats. However, this tool does not perform OCR, the text must already be embedded in the PDF. For image‑only scanned PDFs, you'll need an OCR tool. Shameless plug: try our sister site mergepdf.ca/extract-text for free OCR extraction.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. All conversion happens inside your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your files never leave your device. We don't even have a server to receive them.
Why does my converted document look different?
Formatting may change when converting between document types because each format has different capabilities. For best results, use simple formatting or convert to TXT first, then to your desired format.
Can I convert HEIC images from my iPhone?
Absolutely. HEIC and HEIF files are fully supported and can be converted to JPG, PNG, PDF, and more.
Why is the first video conversion slow?
Video and audio conversion uses FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. The first conversion downloads the ~30MB WebAssembly module. After that, conversions are much faster because the module is cached in your browser.
What's the maximum file size?
There's no hard limit, it depends on your device's memory and browser capabilities. Very large video files (several GB) may cause performance issues, but most common files work perfectly.
